Starting off April 2010 with a bang

The first 3 days of April have been pretty good so far. Myself, dad, Goat, Jerk, Cale, Br33ze and Dustin have been out hitting up some of our favorite spots and have found some decent finds. It just so happens that I found my best find of all time today (April 3, 2010) at one of the best spots. I just got my detector out and turned it on, walked out to a spot I was wanting to try and the first thing I hit was a 1891 dime. I was pretty pumped up about it and couldn't believe the good condition it was in. Later on that evening after bouncing around a couple other spots, I came back and found another U.S. Indian Services button. Dad found one of the smaller U.S. Indian Services buttons earlier that day (which I have still yet to find) but Br33ze has found a few of them both big and small. I posted a photo of all the U.S. Indian Services buttons that dad and I have found collectively as the last photo on this blog. On April fools day, 2010 I found a Knights of Columbus (Catholic organization) cuff link. I posted a pic of it after the front and back images of my 1891 dime.

Mini-harmonica find and some others

Started out the day by pops (Wally) and I going to a school playground where I found a little pendant then we headed to one of our favorite spots... Found another U.S. Indian Services button and another bee bee. Dad found the typical penny or two and I had no more luck then my buddy Jerk (Chance) showed up a long with Shelby W. (Goat). I needed to get some work done on the house my wife and I purchased and Chance is quite the handy man so we headed to take care of a couple of things while Wally and Goat made a flying trip to get Goat a metal detector. While dad and Goat were getting him a metal detector, Jerk and I went and fixed a floor in my house and then broke out the detector in my own front yard..... and what does Chance dig up?!?..... A Pee-Wee, fold up, mini-harmonica with a chain on it. I've never seen anything like this but looked them up on the net and they are definitely old school. It doesn't work when you blow in to it, but nonetheless, it is still pretty cool! I then found a button with line-engraves....

After meeting up with Goat and dad again, we went out to an old frame house and Chance, Wally, Goat and myself all hit that spot up where I found a spoon and a brass belt buckle. It was a pretty good day I suppose, found some interesting stuff.

3rd Indian Services button and a different button

Dad and I went out to one of our favorite spots and right off the bat within the first 5 minutes of detection I found another U.S. Indian Services button then dad found one as well. About 15 minutes after dad found his button, I found what at the time I thought was another U.S. Indian Services button but when I got home I realized it wasn't one. I cleaned it off and it just had an eagle with a shield and a sun and had never seen one of these before, so I was pretty excited. It was a nice day, dad and I stayed out there for about an hour and a half and didn't really have any luck other than the 3 button finds....

[Above]: 1st one of these buttons I've found. It doesn't say anything, just simply has an eagle with what appears to be some kind of shield over the eagle and a sun above his head. 2nd U.S. Indian Services button

Dad and I went out to a favorite spot and I found my second U.S. Indian Services button. He also found his first about 15 minutes before we called it a day. I found a couple of pennies and a dime as well, nothing too old. This button was in better shape than the first one I found, it wasn't bent, but it didn't have the eyelet loop attached on the back like my first one did. The one my dad found was in the best shape of any of the 3 that we've found total. I also found a smashed thimble that is sterling silver.

Another house frame with Chance

Jerk and I went out to another house frame where we were again hoping to find some old stuff, maybe some old coins, etc. We really didn't find nothing to speak too highly of.... a lot of trash metal, etc.... Wish we would have got started earlier as we got out there too late and ran out of daylight. About the most interesting items we found are found below....

[Above]: .40 caliber bullet shell.

[Above]: Wasn't really sure what this was. I've had some people give me guesses like an old draw bar hitch for a tractor or an accent for an old wooden door. It's probably pretty old but I'd have no idea exactly how old.

My little cousin had a ball game at 5 and I thought I'd run the metal detector for an hour or so before the game to see if I could get lucky. I was pretty lucky to say the least, in that I took my metal detector out of the bag, but it on the ground and like 2 minutes into detecting I got my first beep and about 4 inches into the ground, what do I find? My first button, and a U.S. Indian Servies Button at that. I was pretty excited. This one was bent a little bit but it has the eyelet ring on the back still in tact. Later on in the same area I found what appears to be an old bee bee.
